My New Familiar
To re-explore and re-present mythological, occult and esoteric themes with a modern eye, with the occasional foray into representing the beauty of nature. Although I try to bring a modern outlook to my themes I counter-balance this with a traditional fine-art methodology.
Mythology, shared spiritual beliefs and experiences across cultures, races and religions.
I work in black pen and ink, using a pointillist style. The technique is slow and very firmly non-digital. A simple piece will take 40 hours and larger pieces can reach a hundred hours work. This technique allows an almost draughtsman-like precision with a subtlety of shading which can match pencil-work. It is a medium which is not frequently used and rarely used as consistently I do. I have now started experimenting with the addition of ink-wash, both with black India ink and coloured inks - a challenge for a heavily colour-blind artist.
