All The World Is Green

Together At Sea

I Loved Her Many Differences
Biography
I am a contemporary painter, based in Stratford-upon-Avon, creating mixed media paintings with a particular passion for collage. I have a fine art textiles background which is often apparent in my paintings, through my use and love of colours, textures, and patterns. My works are a celebration of mixed media, utilising layers of acrylic paint, inks, oil pastels and collage crafted from newspapers which I have printed or lifted paint on to. The result is a rich visual experience that invites the viewer to explore the intricacies of each piece. My work explores still life, seascapes and flowers, usually on a large scale and are semi abstract.
inspiration
I am inspired by the conviviality of dinner parties, fine dining, social gatherings, and the joy of shared meals, I often find my muse in the world of gastronomy and fine dining (a good excuse to eat out!). My subject matter predominantly revolves around still life, offering a semi-abstract interpretation of moments in time, my paintings aim to encapsulate the essence of time passing during an evening soiree, a lively dinner party, or the intimacy of a family meal, such as breakfast or an informal lunch. Recent paintings however, have been inspired by very different starting points, holidays in Cornwall have led to a series of Seascapes and the view from my garden studio has inspired a number of floral paintings which I've very much been enjoying experimenting with.
medium
I work by building up layers, each contributing to the overall narrative of the piece, and paintings are only completed when I feel the essence of the moment has been captured. A painting can take anything from 2 days to 2 years and can be worked and reworked until I am happy with the result.
I work on linen canvas with acrylic paint and oil pastel, often adding graphite to redraw or emphasise sections and will continue to add inks and collage, building up layers then often taking bits away again. I love colour and am drawn to warm palettes. I am interested in negative shapes and in loosely describing objects, allowing the viewer's eye to draw it's own conclusions.
