Biography
My mission is to bring charm and character to every day whether that’s a morning coffee in a one of a kind mug or a gemstone pendant that sparks daily joy. Through the work I make at Just Plain Charming, I create handcrafted jewellery and ceramics that act as an extension of the wearer’s personality; bold, colourful, and unique. My vision is to grow a business that celebrates the handmade rustic nature of work and having diversity in your craft over niches.
I aim to provide affordable, unique pieces that bring art into the everyday, I am also committed to sustainability, using recycled silver and eco-friendly practices to ensure my growth supports the planet as much as it supports individual expression.
inspiration
As an ADHD/Autistic maker my inspiration comes from the sensory experience and process of turning raw materials into something wonderful, I am naturally drawn to vibrant colors and tactile textures.
In my jewellery, I am inspired by the way oxidised silver makes the bold colours of a gemstone stand out, and provide deep texture.
In my ceramics, I am driven by experimentation of glazes and combinations to discover. Rather than sticking to one medium, I feel that celebrating all aspects of craft you enjoy and my motivation flows between the precision needed in silversmithing and the larger movements of clay on the wheel.
medium
I balance two dvery different mediums - precious metals/gemstones and stoneware ceramics.
In jewellery, my work is driven by the natural character of gemstones, often using recycled silver and oxidised finishes to compliment the stone, creating bold, wearable art. I also specialise in eco collections featuring Surfite which is an upcycled resin from surfboard production giving waste a second life.
In my ceramics, my focus is on experimenting with fun and interesting glaze combinations and functional homeware/items that can be used every day.
While I keep the technical processes separate with two different studios the two mediums provide a vital creative balance that fuels my brain. My process is entirely hands on; I am currently working towards development of a home setup to integrate these crafts further. Looking ahead, I also plan to expand my practice into workshops, sharing these techniques to help others discover the joy of making.
