Biography
Husband-and-wife duo Sophie and Antony Cash founded Ministry of Materials five years ago to celebrate their shared passions for LEGO, vintage cars, and all things playful. Their mission is simple: to create art that’s affordable and unapologetically fun. Every piece they make is designed to do more than decorate a wall—it sparks smiles, starts conversations, and brings people together through shared memories and joyful stories.
Drawing inspiration from childhood imagination, cherished toys, and the thrill of building worlds from scratch, their work is a love letter to the little things that shape us. Whether it’s a colourful brick, a classic car, or a playful detail hidden in the design, Ministry of Materials turns everyday nostalgia into art that’s vibrant, approachable, and full of life.
In short, they make art that’s meant to be loved, shared, and enjoyed by everyone.
inspiration
From an early age, Sophie and Antony were inspired by the joy of creating and imagining. Antony remembers watching Anthea Turner build Tracy Island from a toilet roll, while both of them spent countless weekends at classic car shows with their parents. These experiences sparked a lifelong love for art that evokes the wonder, adventure, and nostalgia of childhood.
LEGO, for them, embodies that same spirit—it’s a tool for imagination that knows no age. Whether it’s a 5-year-old building their first masterpiece or an adult adding playful touches to a man cave, their work celebrates creativity, fun, and the timeless thrill of making something magical from simple materials. Their art is about reconnecting with those memories and sharing the joy of building worlds, one colourful brick at a time.
medium
Our artwork is created in a variety of ways, from traditional lino cut prints to hand-illustrated pen and ink drawings. To keep our work accessible and affordable, we carefully digitise each original piece and reproduce it using the highest quality print processes available.
When you visit our stand, you’ll usually find a diverse mix of styles and mediums on display—each piece celebrating the same playful, nostalgic spirit, but expressed through different techniques, textures, and finishes. This variety allows us to offer something for everyone, whether you’re drawn to bold graphic lines, detailed illustration, or the tactile feel of traditional printmaking.
