Biography
The mission of Perspex Rainbow is to celebrate all aspects of automotive culture, whether this be chrome laden Americana behemoths from the 1950s, classic British motors from your childhood, fire breathing competition cars or more modest small hatchbacks that are more at home in the supermarket car park than a show field.
Each car portrayed, in bold blocks of colour, will evoke a memory to their owners or fans.
inspiration
The Artist has had an interest in cars and transport from a very early age, leading to a career in automotive engineering. Painting pictures and making models of cars had always been a pastime which in recent years had become a bigger part in his life. Martin has moved on from model making, preferring the greater creativity that painting provides.
The Lancashire based artist Chas Jacobs is a big influence on Martin’s style. Chas’ work is mostly architectural or landscape but the bold use of blocks of colour has been adapted by Martin in his chosen subjects.

The practice that Martin uses is self-taught and developed: using a digital reference photograph as a starting point to generate a line drawing. This is then transferred to board from which the finished artwork is created using bold acrylic paint.
Martin has also adapted his method to use enamel paints on steel sheets. This produces a similar style of artwork, but with a more durable finish, suitable for outdoor installations.
