Biography
J.O.Studio is a sustainable brand that repurposes discarded festival tents into apparel and accessories. We aim to encourage people to consider their footprint of a festival weekend by demonstrating the inherent value of the wasted tent material. Through installations, garments and accessories we demonstrate the scale of the festival waste problem (as over 125,000 tents go to landfill EVERY YEAR!). Our mission is to campaign for the end of festival waste, whilst repurposing as many tents, chairs and sleeping bags as we can into stylish, upcycled lifestyle products.
inspiration
I am massively inspired by the source material itself, the colours, shapes and volumes of the tents lend themselves to some excellent and playful design ideas. I am also influenced by my experience walking, hiking and cycling in the countryside of Warwickshire, this leads my work to be purpose led and practical for everyday use. The impact of vintage camping gear is undeniable on my work, and I try to utilise the trims, accessories and colourful sections of the tents in as many different ways as possible!

We collect the festival tents from UK music festivals on the Monday morning, after the festival has finished. We salvage multiple festivals a year, collecting a percentage of the tents and suitable camping equipment left behind. We then bring these tents back and process them, washing , drying and sorting. These tents then get reworked into a range of accessories, all designed to showcase the potential of the otherwise wasted material. Our bestsellers are the recycled tent washbag, the tarpaulin groundsheet pouch, and the recycled guy rope keyrings- however we do a range of other items including flags, bunting and clothes.
