Biography

Deloise is a handcrafted homeware brand and pottery studio. I created Deloise with an ethos which many of us share within our work; to be thoughtfully designed and beautifully handcrafted.

I focus on creating wheel-thrown, functional pottery that people admire to own and enjoy using in their daily lives. My vision for the future is to be a brand that people recognise, while remaining sustainable and wheel-thrown as not to disguise the original craft with modern techniques.

inspiration

I am influenced by people’s interactions with everyday objects; understanding human ergonomics in turn creates a comfortable, well-crafted product. I focus on creating functional pieces that are not only admired but genuinely used and cherished, with the biggest compliment being, “this is my favourite mug, I use it every morning”.

In a fast-paced modern world, I believe the objects we live with should bring a sense of calm and tranquility, this philosophy is reflected in my work through the use of muted yet vibrant colours of the coastline and tactile, intuitive forms that are too tempting not to touch.

All Deloise ceramics is wheel-thrown, trimmed and glazed by myself in my small studio on the outskirts of Rugby, yet inspired by my trips to the coast.

I work with a variety of stoneware clay bodies and mix glazes using my own recipes - this creates one-of-a-kind pieces unique to my brand. The toasted and spotted clay reflects the earthy tones which the clay is dug up from, washed over with glazes created to reflect the ocean, sand and earth.
