Screaming Pear

Fusion F0.08

Guilded Apple
Biography
One of the most exciting things for me is when I sell to people who have never had a piece of sculpture in their house before, and they come back and chat with me after having it for a year about how much it has integrated into their family, from the grandchildren to the grandparents. Also seeing people handling and appreciating each textured sculpture – this, after all, is about a tactile experience.
Sculpting apples and pears in a way which pushes the boundary between femininity and masculinity with a sense of positive well-being, playing with the metaphor of “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”.
inspiration
The rolling hills of Shropshire running down into the valleys of Worcestershire. Where apples were grown for cider making and pears for perry making. The bees humming around and the harvesting of the apples, which would have always been deformed, bruised and decayed has been an inspiration and is reflected in much of my work.
medium
I have three distinct styles of work. The first is sculptural; apples and pears, created from burred or spalted wood. The second is again sculptural, but more abstract. This minimalist range, named Fusion, features rings of wood in contrasting natural colours and woods. The third is the cosmos-inspired wall sculpture.
