Biography
“My mission is to create art that resonates emotionally and sparks imagination. I aim to capture not just what I see, but the essence/atmosphere of a place and the feeling it evokes. Through vibrant colours and rich textures, I strive to bring depth and life to every piece, inviting viewers to experience a sense of wonder and connection.”
“My vision is to craft landscapes, seascapes and quirky worlds that feel both familiar and dreamlike, offering moments of calm, joy, and reflection. I want my work to transform fleeting impressions into lasting experiences, creating art that becomes part of people’s lives and inspires them to pause and appreciate beauty.”
inspiration
I draw my inspiration from the charm of coastal villages, historic towns and the everyday beauty woven through the UK landscape. Much of my work begins with moments I discover on my walks, or during holidays - shifting light on a harbour, the texture of weathered buildings, or the character of places that feel both familiar and full of joy.
Blending imagination with reality, I transform these scenes in to vibrant, textured pieces that evoke warmth, nostalgia and a sense of home. Each art work is my way of capturing not just what I see, but the feeling of being in those places, whether close to home or found on my travels.
medium
I begin a picture by laying down the textures first and then consider how to develop the painting in terms of colour. I start with collage rather than paint, and so immediately there are surface contrasts that will influence the way that a painting is developed.
I like to begin applying the Gesso to Mount Board in a fairly spontaneous way. I apply Gesso using a variety of tools and techniques, creating random shapes, movement and textures with the Gesso. Although, I will have a particular place or scene in mind before I begin, I do not allow this to dominate the painting process.
I mainly use acrylics and acrylic inks, which add to the vibrancy and intensity of colour that can be achieved. I use the Acrylic inks rather like using water colour, building up the picture with layers of washes over my textures. I love them!
