Verity Thompson (Sketchy Illustration)
I make colourful illustrations that I hope will raise a smile, and quirky, slightly off-beat characters that I hope people can relate to.
I also try to encourage a bit of environmental awareness through my work. I’ve created images for a number of local and national organisations that support sustainability and nature connection, and through my social media posts I seek to celebrate the natural world and highlight current conservation issues.
My main inspiration is my love of the natural world, wanting to share this with others to help reignite our sense of wonder and encourage greater compassion and sustainability… and a bring a touch of humour too.
Mostly I use ink and watercolour, sometimes with a scribble of pencil or pastel too. I aim to use the paint in quite a loose and flowing way, and I enjoy using vibrant colours for my cartoons and characters. When it comes to my more sensible pictures (for educational and environmental commissions), I take a more naturalistic approach to colour and form, whilst still trying to capture a sense of lightness and vibrancy.
