inspiration

Susan loves colour, coastlines and changing seasons and take inspiration from the magazine pages before starting a new work. At some point during the process, the paper takes control and the image she started working with becomes something totally different! She is often inspired by characterful animals, colourful florals and rugged landscapes.

medium

Recycled magazines are at the heart of my artistic process, transforming ordinary printed materials into extraordinary works of art. Each magazine page offers a palette of rich, vibrant colors that I use to "paint with paper," carefully layering fragments to recreate landscapes and subjects with depth and detail. The variety of textures within the magazine pages—glossy finishes, text, and patterns—adds a tactile quality to my collages, giving them a dimensionality that a traditional painting cannot achieve. By embedding these textures into my work, I create visual surprises that invite closer inspection, revealing hidden words, shapes, and layers. This approach not only reduces waste by repurposing discarded materials but also enriches my art with a unique character and energy. The interplay of color and texture transforms each piece into a multi-sensory experience, offering viewers both a visual feast and a deeper, more rewarding engagement with the artwork.
