WALKING HOME

THE DAY WAS AT AN END

SOLITARY
Biography
As an artist I aspire to create original, emotive and beautiful pieces of work to be exhibited,
purchased and cherished for years to come. I aim to combine a loose, contemporary approach to
elements of the natural world which have existed long before humans with an original and fresh
perspective. I provide uncomplicated work which leaves minimal impact on the earth, offsetting its
impact by tree-planting.
inspiration
My landscapes are imaginary and inspired by the expansive landscapes of the Scottish Highlands and
the undulating valleys of South Wales, where my family are from. I am drawn to the natural world as
inspiration, my work also includes loose floral watercolours and British Wildlife. Not only is the
natural world inspiring but also it has provided me with comfort and grounding throughout my life,
particularly during difficult times. There is no better designer than the natural world, and my work is
my interpretation and tribute to it.
medium
My preferred medium is watercolour, and in my landscapes I also include some collage and/or
stitching over the top. It's a technique I have built up over some time, working out how to build
interest, layers and detail. I often select a piece of a paperback book to use as the collage, selecting
snippets of words that can also inspire the title.
My wildlife and floral paintings are also in watercolours, sometimes I will add graphite marks but
often they are simply painted. Like most artists I am always experimenting but at this point in time
these are the mediums I prefer.
