Biography
I hope that my ceramic leaf range helps people to stay connected to nature; to bring the outside, inside; to remind them of peaceful times, sitting in a daisy-strewn meadow or wandering through dappled woodland; to reconnect to the natural world and its rhythms, in order to escape the frenetic pace of modern life.
inspiration
Seeking solace from the stresses of life, by walking through woods or working the soil and tending the plants in my garden, means it was a natural progression for me to start using leaves and flowers within my ever-expanding range of homewares, alongside the daisies, flowers and bees I make. The subtle tones of nature sit well on the creamy white earthenware clay that I use, and the use of real leaves and flowers ensures that every piece is unique.
medium
I use an earthenware clay, mined in Cornwall, which has an off-white colour, perfectly matching the subtle hues of nature's green tones. Pressing leaves and flowers into the clay and then firing the finished forms in the kiln, fixes the imprints, allowing me to use underglazes to add the colour, lifting the character of each plant, bringing the piece to life, and making each one unique.
