Biography
I started taking my art seriously in 2022, after painting on and off for most of my life. I decided that I wanted to make "being an artist" my career, and the driving force behind this is my beautiful daughter. I want to show her that you can be whatever you want to be and that you don't have to be confined to a conventional job, and that there is still magic in the world!
inspiration
My main inspiration comes from the natural world. Currently I am focussing on mainly British wildlife, flora and fauna, but this subject is likely to expand over time. I am also fascinated by folklore, magic, whimsy and the language of flowers, so this always finds a place (however subtle,) within my art.
medium
I use mainly watercolour to create my pieces. With the larger pieces, I create a wash for the background and often add salt or inks for texture. When painting the subjects of the piece, after an initial base layer of watercolours I then add further detail using coloured pencils and white/black ink to give more depth. There is always a bit of gold somewhere in my art, whether using gold ink, paint, or metal leaf! I do occasionally work in oils when I have the time, which leads to more relaxed, free and textured paintings.
