Lily's View
Biography
I aim to create fused glass pieces that are contemporary and visually relaxing, inspiring or smile inducing. I create homewares, hand painted wall art and freestanding glass art which is all hand made, kiln fired, fused and slumped glass.
My mission is to keep learning and extending my practice to maintain my creativity whilst ensuring that I produce quality glass to interest and please my customers.
inspiration
I am inspired by the ocean and natural world, favouring a colour palette of blues and greens. I paint on glass and love to create seascapes which may be representations of favourite beaches in Cornwall or Devon, or simply abstracted representations of the ocean.
I am inspired by a simple horizon and the sense of space that the ocean offers. A horizon line offers a spirit level to settle anxious thoughts and help me to think clearly and calmly. I incorporate yellows and ambers into my work to bring the sunshine.
medium
I am a warm glass artist. I work with cold glass, creating designs, cutting, shaping and painting glass which is then kiln fired. A firing takes around 22 hours and a piece may be fired multiple times depending on it's design and structure.
Rather than working with hot glass (blown), where glass will heat until a molten state, warm glass heats to a temperature of around 800 degrees which is enough to fuse multiple pieces of glass into one final piece or to slump it into a moulded shape.
I paint on glass using a range of enamels, inclusions and glass powders.
