Biography

As a ceramicist I create pieces to bring beauty into the house. Vases and vessels reflect notions of nature. My mugs, jugs or bowls are consequently glazed in natural colours. My pieces are made to be used on a daily basis so to bring joy and pleasure to those who admire them.

inspiration

Nature is the treasure trove for so many artists and I am no different: my work is deeply rooted in nature. The leaf vessels are made with real leaves from trees and shrubs around my home in Kenilworth. My glazes are created in view of a healthy natural environment. Each of my pieces is made as a unique work of beauty and pleasure.

medium

Clay is my medium of choice, I throw most pieces on the wheel. Stoneware is my prefered clay, but occasionally I also use Earthenware for particular pieces or lately also Porcelain, the queen of clays. Stoneware is best for domestic ware as it is high-fired, strong and still good value. Porcelain with it's exceptional plasticity and capacity to be thrown thinly is a filed I only just have begun to venture into. This year's porcelain pieces will be in the center of my exploration into clays and their endless possibilities to use.
