Biography
In my work I aim to find humour in the mundane, celebrating hilarity of tiny moments through observations in my everyday life. I enjoy communicating these ideas through my paintings, drawings, maps and zines, championing the local area and the people who live here. I aim to create work that challenges our perception on perspective, not always following the rules capturing imperfect, fun outcomes. I love creating scenes full of little details to discover and I am also very keen to promote the benefits of nature.
inspiration
I'm fascinated by observations in everyday life. This could be an overheard comment on a train or observing the way my finger is too fat for any jewellery, the way my partner Fred always pokes his food before eating or how weird some expressions of speech and language can be when taken literally. All of these could become a drawing or comic book. I like to think of it as extracting hilarity from the mundane. I also enjoy painting nature scenes, perhaps inspired by my lack of a garden.
medium
I work predominantly in gouache, pen and collage. I enjoy leaving the gouache slightly heavier, leaving my brush strokes to create texture. I enjoy cutting shapes with paper to include in my work creating compositions that feel right as I work and removing some of the control that you have with a pen or pencil.
