Golden Hour
Biography
The artist explores light on colour and form through still life paintings.
Ordinary objects create an alternative world where the viewer is invited to create their own story behind the composition and why the chosen objects have been selected. The subject matter takes ordinary things to make them extraordinary. The paintings create a calm world, whilst also being colourful.
inspiration
Inspiration comes from objects speaking to the artist, and them needing to be painted. The interaction between things such as a reflection or flicker of colour from surrounding things inspires the resulting paintings. The artist is inspired to create a calm world aways from the stresses of the world and environment around us.
medium
The artist paints in oils using traditional methods developing layers throught glazing to build depth of colour. She also uses an 'alla prima ' method' for small 'daily paintings ' where these are completed in one session wet in wet. The two different techniques result in different effects and inform the practice of each other. The artist likes to paint some landscapes in summer directly in the open air (en plein air) using this alla prima method.
