My mission is to raise awareness that older black artists can make work that is relevant to today’s society and aesthetically pleasing. Black artists don’t need to always use literal cultural reference to do so .
My inspiration comes from the world around me and how I’ve seen the uk change in the last 50 years .I’m keen to use new technology and embrace change to look at issues that are often challenging. The sea often features in my work to reference diaspora. This can take the form in my latest fractured series of wave like lines making up an image . I also like to abstract landscapes and portraits to see how much I can remove before they are unrecognised.
I use mixed media . So I will use oil paint, watercolour and acrylic like most painters but I like to also use gold leaf fabrics and inks and resin to bring my work to life . I mainly work on wood board or canvas .
