Lady and Tramp

Disco Bob

Stoned Lion

I like to create pieces with character and humour. The technique of needle-felting is often associated with small scale pieces, but I am trying to redefine it and show that it is possible to create larger statement pieces. I gain extra pleasure from teaching the craft to others and watching their imagination take flight.

I take inspiration from a number of sources. Using a natural fibre such as wool I am obviously drawn to the world of nature, but I also derive inspiration from artists of the past, from literature, from television and film and from everyday life.

I create sculptures using just wool and a wire armature. The technique does not involve any stitching or glueing, nor the use of any manufactured items. I find that this lends a feeling of spontaneity, freedom and naturalness to the work. I often juxtapose my creations with everyday objects to add humour and variety.
