Biography

Lindsay - Growing up between the industrial West Midlands and rural Shropshire I have always been inspired by the contrast between this gritty urban environment and its lush green neighbour. Through my work I strive to highlight our dependence on these open green spaces and how we should recognise and cherish the fragility of our relationship with them. The natural world is one that we can take for granted and I aim to encourage people to look around them and take care of the beauty that’s surrounds us all.

inspiration

Lindsay - I often sketch on location aiming to capture the ever changing weather and it's effects on the landscape around me and I find that working en plain air enables me to connect with my environment through sight, smell and sound. I particularly gain inspiration from working in adverse weather conditions and aim to relaying this experience within my paintings via mark making and texture. I like to recycle materials and will often repurpose items such as old books and maps as a basis for my mixed media artworks, avoiding them being sent to landfill.

medium

Lindsay - I mainly use mixed media in my work and enjoy exploring mark making and creating textures. I repurpose old books, maps, sheet music, teabags and receipts among other ephemera to create a surface for my semi abstract landscapes which I then work over with acrylics or, if sealed, oil paints using a variety of tools to add interesting marks and textures. I also add texture using different papers and materials to bring depth to a picture and sometimes use text in my work.
