Atherton Art Prints
Clementine . The English Shorthorn
My animal portraits were born during the first lock down. It was an idea that I had wanted to try but never had the time. The pieces were originally just for me, a way of expressing a creative idea in difficult times.
After lots of positive feedback I decided that they would work well as limited edition framed prints. So Atherton Art Prints was created.
I love the idea of combining photography, painting and pencil sketching to create an image. The boundary between the media becomes blurred, leaving the veiwer unsure of just what and how the final work has been created.
As a proffessional event and advertising photographer I have spent almost 25 years furfilling other peoples briefs and bringing their ideas to life. Its so nice to be creating these pictures purley for me.
When I began to make the first sales last year it was the icing on the cake and really very exciting.
Its one thing when friends tell you something is 'cool' but quite another when a stranger buys a picture.
The start point for the work is a photograph selected form hundreds, taken to capture the personality of the animal. From here the photograph is taken apart, only leaving the subject. Paint is then blended into the photograph with pastel pencils working into the 2 media to add detail and depth.
The final pieces are then printed onto the finest German Etching Paper supplied from one of the oldest paper mills in Europe. The real wood hand made bespoke frames finish the pieces.
