The key mission with my work was to continue to learn and improve my painting skills alongside sharing my knowledge with others in my role as teacher and facilitator in my full time employments.
I hope I have given others inspiration to continue using art/painting to improve their wellbeing through my teaching and my paintings .
The work explores a love affair with the introduction of digital age where images are transformed to new dimensions .This alteration of colours, space and lines are the stimulation to create images that question perception of form.
The subject in the more recent paintings contain a mixture of surrealism and realism. Hair is replaced with branches, skin looks metallic, cats fall into worlds of bubbles or penetrate paper surrounded by light bulbs. Trees, the sea and flowing chiffon are a recurring theme in my work . The paintings hopefully question the imagination .
I have painted with oil paints since i was given them at nine years of age. I would describe my art as vibrant , energetic and use complementary colours to create the impact that I want from the subjects. Oils has the consistency and texture that allows me to get the depth and glazes required in the painting of skin and transparent objects such as bubbles and fabrics. Its long drying time suits my style of painting.
When painting murals I use acrylics due to the scale and amount required.
