Joy is the driving force of my practice, and my works aim to inspire a moment of this intangible, ephemeral feeling to exhilarate and uplift the viewer. Creating through a range of mediums including painting, ceramics, and public art, my works combine vibrant colours, patterns from nature and playful compositions, all aiming to cultivate positive emotion in the viewer.
I explore how art can be utilised to transform various uninspiring spaces, to joyous ones which engage and inspire the viewer; from festivals, to hospital walls, to within the private setting of the home.
Each handcrafted artwork aims to transcend age, class, race, and gender, with playful patterns and sunny colours combined to create an artwork and experience that is universally joyful.
I am constantly inspired by patterns found within nature. Combining studies of flora, fauna, and microscopic imagery, I create familiar yet unidentifiable forms to encourage the viewer to playfully guess and trace the shapes back to their original source. Each artwork embraces the organic and biomorphic form, to create a sense of new life and optimism.
Each sculptural or functional ceramic is hand-built or hand thrown on the potters wheel using stoneware or earthenware clay. After the first firing, they are intricately hand painted or hand carved with vibrant glazes and slips before being fired for the final time to over 1200 degrees!
The pattern designs of the vibrant textiles are from original watercolours inspired by nature and designed to bring joy to your home. 100% cotton, the tea towels are printed and made in the UK.
The joyous prints are a playful fusion of colour and form, printed in the UK on artist watercolour paper, each fine art giclee print is from an original collage.
