Rhubarb and Crumble
Shoplifters of the World Unite
Leicester 2019 - A sunny day
Rhubarb and Crumble are a collective of two; partners in design, Alison Cole and Vanessa Stanfield.
We want to create quirky, contemporary, fun affordable art. Whether this be a framed print, a tote bag, a t-shirt or a button badge, the designs will be a thought provoking commentary on modern life.
We exhibit our work through events, fairs, exhibitions and online to reach a variety of different people.
Rhubarb and Crumble's work is a reflection on how we respond to modern life, whether that is Piccalilli Jars in the pantry or Bee's making statements on hedgerow destruction.
Alison: I draw my inspiration from song lyrics, sayings and idioms. My latest body of work is based on 'things your mother said', a series of hand cut linos based on sayings from everyone's childhood.
Vanessa: I am inspired by everyday objects around the home drawing images from my childhood in the 1970's and 1980's. Overlooked household items such as toasters, fridges and tins feature heavily within my work.
We are print makers using different techniques to express our visions.
Alison works extensively with lino cut, using a traditional Nipping Press to print final images. Work is displayed on a range of Prints, Cards, Bags and T-shirts.
Vanessa's work is developed through hand drawn illustrations that are created in colour and digitally printed. Work includes Prints, Cards, Bags and Pencil Cases.
Both having a love of button badges, we collectively produce a range of pin badges.
